(2020-02-5) Embassy of Pakistan, Seoul hosted an event today to commemorate the Kashmir Solidarity Day. The event was well attended by participants from diverse backgrounds including Korean and Pakistani students, professors, businessmen and famous social media influencers of Korea to express their support and solidarity with the people of the Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJ&K) who are waging a brave and just struggle for realizing their inalienable right to self-determination and freedom.

Charge’ d’affaires read President and Prime Minister’s messages on the occasion of Kashmir Solidarity Day. Participants were also briefed on the genesis of Kashmir issue as well as prevailing situation in the region. Attendees were briefed that 5 February was being commemorated in Pakistan and globally to express solidarity with the oppressed people of Kashmir who have been waging a struggle for their freedom and self-determination for over 70 years in the face of repression and atrocities at the hands of the Indian occupying forces. The situation in IOJ&K is one of the worst human rights and humanitarian crisis. Pakistan supports the just struggle of the Kashmiri people for the realization of their right to self-determination and has been calling for accountability for the human rights violations in IOJ&K.

Participants showed deep interest and raised number of pertinent questions on the issue of Kashmir and its global and regional implications and engaged in active discussions with the officers of the Embassy. Despite the outbreak of corona virus in Korea, a large turn-out on this event showed the importance attached to this international issue.
